Université de Moncton

Jacques Paul Couturier was appointed Interim President and Vice-Chancellor of the Université de Moncton on January 29, 2018. He was previously the vice-president of the Edmundston campus of the Université de Moncton since July 1, 2013.

Over the course of his teaching and research career, Dr. Couturier has published numerous works and articles on Canadian and Acadian history.

At the community level, Dr. Couturier is involved in a number of organizations and has supported a range of causes. At the 2014 Congrès mondial acadien, he oversaw the organization of the symposium L’Acadie dans tous ses défis, a major multidisciplinary scientific event in the area of Acadian studies. As a historian, Dr. Couturier has served on numerous boards, including those of the Institut d’histoire de l’Amérique française, the Association for Canadian Studies and the journal Acadiensis.

Made a Knight of the Order of Academic Palms in 2010, Dr. Couturier was elevated to
the rank of officer in 2017 by the French Republic.
